In a landmark move to enhance India’s aerospace manufacturing capabilities and foster regional development, the Government of Maharashtra has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Max Aerospace & Aviation Pvt. Ltd. to establish a cutting-edge helicopter manufacturing facility in Nagpur. With a planned investment of ₹8,000 crore, the plant is expected to generate approximately 2,000 direct and indirect employment opportunities by the time it becomes fully operational in 2026.

The agreement was officially signed between Industries Secretary P. Anbalagan and Max Aerospace Chairman Bharat Malkani, in the esteemed presence of Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and other key dignitaries. This initiative marks Maharashtra’s first dedicated helicopter manufacturing facility, further solidifying the state’s ambitions to become a major player in India’s aerospace and defence manufacturing ecosystem.

Set to be located near Nagpur Airport, the facility will benefit from its strategic geographic location, existing aviation infrastructure, and logistical efficiencies, making it a key Centre of Excellence for customisation, integration, and flight testing of rotary-wing aircraft.

Chief Minister’s Vision for Defence Growth

Chief Minister Fadnavis hailed the agreement as a “transformational step” for Maharashtra’s industrial roadmap. He affirmed the state’s full support for the timely execution of the project.

“Max Aerospace’s decision to establish its helicopter manufacturing unit in Nagpur is a testament to Maharashtra’s growing appeal as a defence and aerospace hub. The government is committed to ensuring a smooth and swift establishment of this facility,” said Fadnavis.

He further noted that Nagpur already houses several defence-supportive infrastructures, making it an ideal location for such a high-tech industrial venture.

Bharat Malkani, Chairman of Max Aerospace, expressed both personal pride and professional commitment to the state.
